I am from Australia and will be in Honolulu for Halloween. Where should we go / what should we do to experience it as it is not celebrated in Australia. Seems like its going on at Kalakaua Ave. from Lewers St to Kapahulu Ave ending at Hulas Bar and Lei Stand. People come from all over the world and dress up to the max, could be up to 30,000 people having a blast. All the kids will dress up and hit the malls or go around their neighborhood and go house to house to get their candy. Here’s an article from Honolulu Magazine 2014 for Hallow’een, it’ll give you an idea of what’s available: There’s always clubbing too – very popular option during Hallow’een. People usually dress up on the naughtier side at most clubs. As for the costume, I would pick one up locally when you get there – either at a thrift store or Walmart unless you have something unique from down under. You will love it! Nothing like what we have here!! We were in Waikiki for Halloween 2013 and will be there again this year also! Last time we just went out for dinner at p.f Chang’s which was nice. They had this huge bowl of chocolates you could take. We then just walked up and down the main street taking it all in and and having pictures with everyone, so many of the costumes are unreal!! My niece would go into the shops and they were handing out lollies. My son was a bit young for that then but he is big enough to enjoy it this year and wants to wear a costume. @bella731 – if you get a chance, you should take your son into a local neighborhood for trick or treating; that’s a blast especially if you’re children are young. Just Google “best neighborhood for trick or treating Honolulu” and you’ll get several recommendations. Go early – trick or treating usually starts around dusk and ends by 7:30PM or so. Bring a bag or two (ideally one that is Hallowe’en themed) for the all the candy you’re son will collect 🙂 Thank you coolspot, I will definitely look into that!! Each year it gets a little bigger here, last year we took him out in our local neighborhood who had all gotten into the spirit of it, he thought it was pretty cool and still talks about it, he is currently 3 and a half so I think he will love it! Thanks for this post and replies… we’ll be there for Halloween too so looking forward to taking our 11yo and 5yo around.
